Gymkhana — Join the Fun

Routt County Gymkhana Club is a family inclusive organization that exists to promote the sport of rodeo, encourage sportsmanship and camaraderie, and instill the importance of livestock care, while continuing to preserve the traditions of our Western Heritage.

The club hosts weekly events on Wednesday evenings at Romick Arena in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, throughout the summer, offering barrel racing, pole bending, stake race, and breakaway roping. This year our events will take place June 10, 17, 24, July 8, 15, 22, 29, and August 5.

Entry fees:
$10 per run for club members
$20 per run for all non-members
$25 for Breakaway night

Club membership is $50.00 for the season. The membership fee will be waived if the member brings $200.00 or more in sponsors/donations for the club by the first event of the season.

Visit the Breakaway Roping page for more information on how ropings will be ran.

As a family-friendly organization, we offer divisions for all ages:

  • Assisted Foals (leadline — all ages)

  • Peewee (7 & under)

  • Youth (8-10)

  • Juniors (11-14)

  • Seniors (15-18)

  • Adults (19-44)

  • Masters (45+)

Age groups are based on age as of January 1st of the current year. Assisted foals may be led on foot or ponied horseback. Stake Race will not be offered for Assisted Foals.

All contestants will compete in their age group for the fastest time. 70% of total entry fees will be paid out to the each age division, regardless of membership status.

  • 1–9 participants → Pays up to 5 places

  • 10–19 participants → Pays up to 8 places

  • 20–29 participants → Pays up to 12 places

A point system for members will be kept for barrels, poles, stake race, and breakaway combined for year end awards. Riders must be a member and compete in six of the eight competition nights to be eligible for year end awards. A combined point total from all four events (Barrels, Poles, Stake, Breakaway) will be tracked throughout the season for the RCGC core youth divisions — Pee-wee, Youth, Junior and Senior. These age divisions will qualify for the All Around High Point Award. Assisted Foals, Adults and Masters will not be included in the All Around High Point award, but will have top 5 placings.

In addition, we offer exhibition runs for barrels and poles. Exhibition runs are $10 per run and open to all riders. Exhibition runs will start in the main arena at 5:15pm.

All participants must provide their own horse.
