Breakaway Roping

In addition to weekly gymkhana events, RCGC offers Breakaway Roping on Wednesday evenings at Romick Arena in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, throughout the summer. Breakaway Roping is a youth focused event held in the Main Arena immediately after the Stake Race.

Breakaway will be ran on an alternating weekly schedule with 4 Practice Nights — June 10, June 24, July 15, and July 29. Practice nights are focused on open roping and skill building. Adults may enter on practice night.

The other four evening will host 4 Competition Nights — June 17, July 8, July 22, and August 5. Competition nights will host timed runs and points for members of the four youth age groups with payouts for members and non members. Adults may not enter competition nights.

Breakaway roping is included in year-end All Around calculations for the four core youth group — peewee (7& under), Youth (8-10), Junior (11-14), Senior (15-18).

Entry fees are $25 per night with open roping in a set evening time frame designated by the committee members. (Example, no later than 10:30pm).
